unhappy fate by liga-marta unhappy fate by liga-marta
...but she (Nienor) was not there, nor was it ever known whither the cold waters of Teiglin had taken her...

Chapter 21: Of Turin Turambar
The Silmarillion
J.R.R. Tolkien

I was inspired by photo, found it on internet.

So poignant. Turin and Nienor were both under Morgoth's curse. But Turin's pride and arrogance contributed to his doom. Nienor was truly innocent. She looks finally at peace here.

I love how you remembered the dreadful paleness that dead people have. Quite a lot of artists forget it...

She reminds me of "The Lady of Shalott" ...I love Loreena McKennitts musical interpretations of it (the less abridged ones more)

Nienor's story is so sad and so little-known... I'm glad someone promotes her ;) Actually, Nienor was the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw this, even before reading the description. Great job!

Recalls Ophelia...

But - sorry for being captious - Nienor by the time of her death was rather deeply pregnant. In this case the picture should be taken as allegorical, I'd say

Beautifull watercolour, stuning rendition to Tolkien's story. I'm speechless, love the way water and her hair flow, colours are excellently chosen. Wish someday I'll do something as beautiful as this!

I actually thought that's what it was all about at first. .___. I read "Unhappy Fate" and it applied immediately to my love of Ophelia. I feel so bad for her, all katharsis was felt on her death, not Hamlets. Actually, I personally feel that Gertrude (Hamlet's mother) killed Ophelia. And yes, I have proof.
